Who: Barrelhouse Group| Industry: Hospitality | Headcount: Less than 50 casual and permanent employees
Barrelhouse Group operates within the hospitality industry, as a boutique distiller of gin and whiskey and an operator of hospitality venues in Sydney CBD. Their patrons are the general public; they cater towards regular and infrequent guests to their venues and CBD workers gathering for a drink after work. They also host a variety of events.
The Challenge
As part of an audit of compliance with the latest Respect@Work legislation, Safe Work NSW conducted an audit across the hospitality industry in the Sydney CBD. A Barrelhouse Group venue was audited and gaps were identified in compliance with the latest Respect@Work legislation. The audit of hospitality businesses in Sydney’s CBD was prompted when allegations of sexual harassment with a competitor group surfaced. Barrelhouse Group wanted to address the issue head on and worked with Employee Matters as experts in this area.
The Solution
Our expert consulted with employees on the development of a risk register, after identifying and assessing the risks, controls were developed to mitigate the risk of sexual harassment in the workplace. The project was completed within a six week timeframe as mandated by Safe Work NSW.
The Results
Barrelhouse were then advised that they met the requirements of Safe Work NSW and received feedback that the risk register and assessment was one of the best and most thorough that Safe Work NSW had seen. Barrelhouse is now compliant with the Respect@Work legislation and has the confidence that if issues do arise, both employees and the business have processes in place to effectively manage and mitigate these risks.
