Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing how we work, learn and make decisions but can it really give reliable career advice?
Employee Matters Founder and Managing Director, Natasha Hawker, recently joined Weekend Sunrise for their special segment “Are You Smarter Than AI?”, where some of the most common career questions people ask AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot were put to the test.
The segment explored whether AI can truly support real-world career decisions and where human experience, judgement and workplace context still matter most.

Questions Put to AI Included:
- What are the most in-demand jobs for the future?
- What are the best jobs without formal qualifications?
- What is the best way to ask for a pay rise?
- How can you future-proof your career in an AI-driven workplace?
AI can be a powerful starting point for career guidance but it is not a replacement for real-world experience, workplace insight, or professional judgement. The real advantage in the future of work will come from knowing how to use AI alongside human skills, not instead of them.

Final Thoughts
The future of careers won’t be about competing with AI, it will be about adapting with it.
Those who embrace AI literacy while continuing to build human-centred skills will be best positioned to thrive in a rapidly changing workplace.
Host 1: Welcome back to Weekend Sunrise. Now, Artificial Intelligence is moving into almost every industry, leading many of us to wonder: is our career safe, and can AI actually give better career advice than a human expert?
Host 2: To test this out, we are playing a game of "Are You Smarter Than AI?" We've put some of the most frequently asked career questions to major AI platforms like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot. Joining us now to put those answers to the test is Career and HR Expert from Employee Matters, Natasha Hawker. Natasha, great to have you.
Natasha Hawker: Thanks for having me. It’s great to be here.
Host 1: Alright, let's jump straight into the first question we asked the AI. We asked ChatGPT: "What will be the most in-demand jobs by the year 2027?" ChatGPT came back and said AI specialists, cybersecurity professionals, and healthcare workers. Natasha, how did the AI do on this one?
Natasha Hawker: Look, ChatGPT actually nailed it. Those are absolutely going to be the high-growth areas. What's fascinating is the broader picture from the World Economic Forum. They predict that while automation and AI will displace about 92 million jobs globally, it is actually expected to create around 170 million new ones. So there is a massive net gain, but the roles are shifting rapidly.
Host 2: That is reassuring to hear about the net gain! Let's move to the second question. We asked Google's Gemini: "What are the best jobs you can get right now without any formal qualifications?" Gemini suggested roles in sales, customer care, and warehousing or logistics. Is the AI on the money here?
Natasha Hawker: Yes and no. It’s right about sales and customer service, where soft skills and attitude matter more than a degree. But I would flag a major warning label on warehousing and logistics. The advancements we are seeing right now in robotics mean that traditional warehouse roles are at a very high risk of being automated out of existence much sooner than people think. So if you're entering that space, you need to be looking at how to work alongside those automated systems.
Host 1: Very smart distinction. Now, the big one that everyone wants to know. We asked Microsoft Copilot: "What is the best way to ask your boss for a pay rise?" Copilot gave a very structured response: document your achievements, research the market rate for your role, and book a formal meeting to present your case with confidence. What do you think of that advice?
Natasha Hawker: It’s a solid baseline, but it lacks the human nuance. What I always tell people is that you have to treat it like a performance. You need to write a script and physically practice your pitch before you walk through that door. More importantly, simply showing up and doing your job isn't enough to justify a raise anymore—that's just meeting expectations. You have to clearly demonstrate how you are performing above and beyond the norm and adding distinct value to the business.
Host 2: Absolutely, practice makes perfect. So, looking at the big picture, what is your ultimate advice for people watching who want to future-proof their careers against this AI wave?
Natasha Hawker: My biggest piece of advice is to embrace AI literacy. Don't wait for your boss or your company to hand you a training manual. Go out, experiment with these tools, and understand how they apply to your specific industry. At Employee Matters, we are actively integrating AI into our workflows, and it’s actually allowing us to scale and increase our headcount, not reduce it. Continuous learning is your best defense.
Host 1: Fantastic insights as always, Natasha. Thank you so much for joining us this morning.
Natasha Hawker: Thank you.
Host 2: That was Natasha Hawker from Employee Matters.
